From the beginning, we have always been focused on giving back at Knickey. Whether that means donating Undies and Bralettes to women and girls in need, supporting charitable organizations with monetary contributions, or even putting in physical volunteer time -- we have made sure to prioritize contributing to the health and well-being of our communities.
In 2021, we joined 1% for the Planet, choosing to focus our charitable efforts on something that underscores everything we do at Knickey. 1% for the Planet is an organization that brings businesses and nonprofits, all committed to protecting the planet, together to benefit one another. Business members of 1% for the Planet like Knickey commit to donating at least 1% of their annual revenue to nonprofits with environmentally-focused missions. Nonprofit members are vetted by 1% for the Planet directly to ensure they maintain their environmental mission and that business’s contributions go where they’re supposed to.
We wanted to take it a step further, and so we also partnered with Beam, which allows our customers to get directly involved in our giving and make their voices heard. With every purchase, you have the option to choose where Knickey dollars are donated, from a selection of four 1% for the Planet approved organizations that span across a variety of environmentally-centered causes. Learn more about the four organizations we’re supporting - whichever one you choose, rest assured that your dollars are making a difference:
Solar Sister invests in women’s clean energy businesses in off-the-grid African communities, in order to support sustainable energy solutions and female entrepreneurs. To date, they have kickstarted the businesses of 6,200 entrepreneurs and reached over 2.4 million people with clean energy.
Women’s Voices for the Earth
Women’s Voices for the Earth is a national organization that since 1995 has amplified women’s voices to eliminate the toxic chemicals that harm our health and communities. For example, in 2020, they moved Summer’s Eve to stop using 10 chemicals of concern in their intimate care products.
Kiss the Ground
Kiss the Ground trains farmers to transition to more sustainable farming practices that improve water quality and soil health, as well as carbon capture properties in soil that slow climate change. Their education programs also allow for non-farmers to learn about regenerative agriculture in order to become Soil Advocates.
Harlem Grown operates local urban farms, increases access to healthy food for Harlem, NYC residents and provides garden-based development programs to Harlem youth. Currently, they have 12 urban agriculture facilities ranging from soil-based farms, hydroponic greenhouses and school gardens that provide fresh produce to Harlem’s underserved communities.
