We don’t usually like putting labels on things, but when it comes to sustainability, labels matter. Our undies are certified to the highest standards out there, and we’ve got it on good authority. Get to know more about the certifications we proudly hold below.
The Real OC
Our products are fully certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). GOTS sets the gold standard for organic fiber certification at all levels of the supply chain. To ensure our products have met their strict requirements across the board, third-party auditors check the entire supply chain from seed to shelf. This means that toxic chemicals are prohibited in farming and processing, facilities must reduce water usage, conserve energy, and minimize waste as much as possible, and it means that there is a close monitoring of raw materials and machinery to ensure all goods are free from toxic chemical residues. Moreover, it means safe and healthy working conditions, living wages, reasonable hours, and the right to unionize are standard in facilities that make Knickey products.
We believe that toxic relationships have no business up in your business. Oeko-Tex is a global certification that ensures textiles are free of harmful chemicals like Azo colourants, nickel, lead, cadmium, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol... and other impossible to pronounce substances that can cause irritation. It’s our promise that no toxic inputs are used throughout the production process and only the safest dyes and finishes are used on your certified organic undies.
Fairest of Them All
Our factories are Fair Trade certified to ensure everyone involved in the Knickey production process is treated with the respect and care they deserve. This means that living wages, safe working conditions, and absolutely no toxic substances that could be harmful to people’s health will be found within the facility. We believe that everyone has a right to a safe and supportive working environment, and Fair Trade International is the minimum standard to which we hold ourselves.
Caring About Climate
In 2021, Knickey officially became Climate Neutral certified. What does being Climate Neutral certified mean? To put it plainly, it means we worked with Climate Neutral to measure and offset 100% of our carbon emissions, using Climate Neutral-approved methods. Although reducing absolute carbon emissions is our ultimate goal, we use certified offsets to neutralize our footprint in places where we have very little control over the process or where further reductions in carbon emissions are not currently possible. Recently, our largest manufacturing partner installed solar panels that will account for 60% of the factory’s energy use, helping us to reduce the carbon emissions of our manufacturing. We also partner with Cloverly to calculate and offset emissions from the shipping on every customer order, and work with our freight forwarder to offset the emissions from our import shipments, in order to shrink our footprint even further.
The Total Package
Last but not least, our packaging is made with recycled content, post-consumer waste, low impact inks and is 100% plastic-free. Our shipping boxes are Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certified, meaning they are produced by suppliers who prioritize the preservation of natural ecosystems and prevent deforestation. Supporting the Sustainable Forestry Initiative also helps to further its work of conserving water resources, ensuring fire resilient forests, and implementing climate smart forestry. That means that once you’ve received your Knickey undies, we’re still working to ensure your package has the lowest possible impact on the earth.
